WHAT’S YOUR PASSION?

Steve Jobs in his famous Stanford University speech said “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And like any great relationship, it just gets better as the years roll on. So, keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.”

 

I started look at age 22. Fifty-two years I FOUND MY PASSION.

You will know when you find your Passion.”  I was standing in the Gulf of Mexico and talking to myself. “Do something you can do. “I could Walk. I WILL WALK”. Since June 12, 2006 I have never missed a day of walking Briskly. Steve Jobs put it this way. “Like any great relationship, it gets better and better as the years roll on.” He also said this in his speech and I say it right now to you. “Keep looking for your passion until you find it. Don’t settle.”

Walking every day has made me younger and healthier, and I feel better than I was at age 35.  The North-East Texas Health department had me on their billboards as their poster boy. I write about walking, blog about walking, and talk about walking.

If I can transform from a dying old man to a healthy happy, passionate “35-year-old” then you can to.

“How can I do that?” you ask.

You will need only two easy to get, simple to use fuels,

WATER and FOOD every day.

Your body has only two tasks to do.

Get in motion, so WALK every day.

SLEEP for seven or more hours every night.

WAFOWASL 

That is it.

WATER, FOOD, WALK,SLEEP

This becomes a HABIT. More water, less sugar drinks and eventually no sugar drinks.  Fresh and fresh frozen fruits and veggies and nuts. You get better and better habits and have only whole grains, desert once a week, smaller helpings, less modified stuff, and make more good decisions.

Walking every day and sleeping every night become more of a daily ROUTINE.

 

Now the way you eat and move is a DISCIPLINE and other people start to see you as a leader they want to follow.

You are CONSISTANT.

You Are 

HAPPY AND HEALTHY  

Four simple steps that turn into a habit then a, routine then a discipline, done consistently.

Northeast Texas is getting HEALTHY

 

My “Get Healthy Journey” started June 12, 2006.  Northeast Texas is becoming the Health and Wellness Center of Texas.

Old people fall, and it is a major cause of death. I fell January 17, 2006 in East Texas. If my fall had not happened in Canton, Texas I would not be here writing to you because dead people don’t write. 

From the instant I was put in the Champion EMS ambulance I was in the care of the Number One Trauma team in the State of Texas located at ChristusTrinityMotherFrances in Tyler. Good Shepard Medical Center of Longview is now a part of that system.

Hang On, we are just getting started. The Flight For Life air medical  transport service provides critical service within a 350 miles radius of Tyler, Flight For life serves over 100,000 square miles of Northeast Texas, Western Louisiana, and Southern Oklahoma.    

Ardent Health Services, a for profit, strong track record Corporation has acquired ETMC and it will become a part of the UT HEALTH EAST TEXAS. Because Ardent is a for-profit system, the acquisition will provide the area with a significant amount of tax dollars.

Keep on hanging on. Times are a changing to HEALTHY HAPPY LIVING.  UT Health Northeast has announced its partnership with MD Anderson constantly ranked No. 1 for cancer care by U.S. News & World report. All of this is expected to close March 1, and the new logo will be unveiled.

Last year UT Health Northeast invested $30 Million toward the construction of a School of Community Health which will focus on finding solutions for rural and public health epidemics. The facility will be at the UT Health Science Campus.

 

So, what does all this mean to us who live and work in Northeast Texas?  Kevin Eltife, a former state senator and currently a member of the University board of regents says, “The partnerships that we are building- the health care that we will be able to provide for our citizens- will be unmatched anywhere in this county.”

 

East Texas will be expanding teaching and training for more health care professionals. This will attract the brightest of the brightest who have the passion to cure sickness, illness, and chronic disease, not just treat and control it.

We no longer will fight traffic to get to Houston and Dallas.

Patient care will expand and improve using the new technologies of the 21St century.

We will no longer be underserved, we will be the leader in health care. 21st Century jobs and opportunities will not only come to East Texas, they will be created here.

It means we are becoming THE HEALTH AND WELLNESS CAPITAL OF THE USA.

I am 85 years old, but the body is better right now than 64 years ago when Uncle Sam drafted me into the US Army.

I once weighed 254 and my blood pressure was at 204 /105. I moved to East Texas  to die. I changed my mind on June 12, 2006 and I chose to do 4 things.I call it WAFO WASL. which stands for WATER, FOOD,WALK,and SLEEP. Theses are the four keys to getting healthy and changing your life style.

Since June 12,2014  I have been walking. I mean BRISKWALKING .  I walk  20 to 45 minutes every day and work to stay under a 20 minute mile. Big Deal? You better dang well believe it. Since that day in 2006 I have walked over 32,000,000 steps and mostly at a brisk pace. So What. Well, I have not been sick. My blood pressure at last Medicare physical was 95/56 and the weight is between 143 and 145.

The food and drug industry, bureaucrats, medical industry, educators and politicians tend to make being healthy   complicated, confusing, and expensive.

 

I am am DATA" guy.

There are three kind of food-protein, carbohydrates and fats.

WAFO

Our body must have only two fuels to stay alive-  water and food.

WASL

Our body must do two things to stay alive-motion and rest. I call that walk and sleep.

A major reason for the epidemic of obesity is drinking  too much soda pop.

There are about 39 grams of sugar in a 12 ounce can or bottle of sugar pop, That is 9.7 teaspoons. Labels talk in GRAMS AND TABLESPOONS . It takes three teaspoons to fill a tablespoon.

Water is better. Green tea is good. Flavor your water. That will satisfy your sweet tooth
