HERE IS MY PROBLEM. I DO NOT HAVE ANY DEEP THOUGHTS ABOUT SLEEP
FROM HIGH SCHOOL -COLLEGE- CORPORATE JOBS TO "THAT DAY" JUNE 12/ 2006 - SLEEP WAS NEVER A PRIORITY.
SLEEP IS A PRIORITY NOW.
FIVE YEARS AGO THERE WAS A BUMP IN THE ROAD. I REALLY SCREWED UP BIG TIME. THE TEMPERATURE WAS 17 DEGREES. I WAS ALL BUNDLED UP STARTING THE MORNING BRISK WALK. I DID NOT WARM UP. ON THE LAST TURN I WAS ABOUT 25 SECONDS SHORT OF WHERE I WANTED TO BE. I CUT OFF THE CONCRETE WALKING AREA AND CUT ACROSS THE GRASS SHORTCUT.. IT WAS DEAD LEAVES -NOT GRASS. I TRIPPED OVER THE WALK AND WENT SAILING THROUGH THE AIR. I DO REMEMBER HITTING THE GROUND AND ALL THE AIR LEFT MY BELLY.
A RUNNER SAW THIS HUNK IN THE LEAVES AS SHE WAS LEAVING THE PARK SHE SAID SHE ASKED IF I WAS HURT. SHE SAID I SAID S "I DON'T KNOW'. SHE SWEARS TO THIS DAY THAT SHE DID NOT HELP ME UP. I GOT UP, I WALKED 74 STEPS TO MY TRUCK. TOOK THIS SELFIE.
DROVE HOME. MY WIFE CALLED 911 .THE AMBULANCE ARRIVED.. I BUSTED A BUNCH OF RIBS AND PUNCTURED A LUNG. TWO MONTHS LATER I WAS IN ANOTHER 5K .THAT BUNCH OF FIRST RES-PONDERS -TRAUMA DOCS AND STAFF SAVED MY LIFE.
SINCE THAT DAY I GET IN BED-LAY ON MY BACK- DO NOT MOVE -AVERAGE 7 TO 8 HOURS OF SLEEP AND THE MAJORITY OF THE SLEEP IS DEEP SLEEP. THAT IS ALL I KNOW ABOUT SLEEP.
IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS WE HAVE LEARNED MORE THAN EVER ABOUT THE BRAIN . SLEEP IS A BIG BART O F THIS RESEARCH THAT IS DEFEATING SICKNESS, ILLNESS AND CHRONIC DISEASE. WE WILL BE ON THE LOOKOUT.
